About the destination

Mantua or Mantova in Italian halfway to Milan and Venice, in the Lombardy region, appears on the banks of the Mincio, Po and Oglio rivers. It constitutes one of those cities that remain in the shadow of the great places of the tourist circuits of Italy. Next to Verona, Cremona, Modena or Parma, there is a circular route that you can visit if you already know Milan, Rome or Venice. In Mantua the plot of the opera Rigoletto takes place, besides being the birthplace of the poet Virgilio and its Renaissance urban scene, promoted by the medieval family of the Gonzaga, it serves as the first motive to keep in mind during our trip through Lombardy. In 2008 Unesco awarded it with the award that recognizes the World Heritage (at the height of Sabbionetta) and in 2016 it has been the capital of culture in Italy, attracting investments to recover its artistic heritage and extolling the figure of a booming city . The Festivaletteratura is a literary event that is repeated every year in the city, being a national reference in the literary and cultural scene.
